Stories, ideas and musings to make sense of this thing called life..

The Weekend that felt like spring

First amazing day on Sunday weather wise. When I actually wanted to hang outside and do some…

Yard Cleaning!

I haven’t felt like that in a long time, and it reminded me of all the space we have besides our tiny house! Yes, it’s easy to forget the outside spaces of my house if all I ever want to do is stay holed up in the brutal winter air…

More Mad Men was watched…

Like 3 episodes, all on Sunday too! It’s crazy that I was able to to all that I did and carve out 3 hours to watch TV?! Yes, it’s a great show, and fast moving with deep characters and storylines that connect and make sense. But also, the actors are amazing, and it helps that they have amazing costumes and sets to work with. This show is a total package…no wonder I can’t stop watching!

A Beer Hangout

My son had his RCM piano exam on Saturday afternoon. He was more nervous than he used to be. That is the effect of growing up and being more self-conscious I guess? I remember that between the ages of say 4 and 9 he really didn’t mind the recitals, and just went ahead and did his thing, no problem. But 9 onwards, the nerves and anxiety have been making an appearance. And, that’s growing up I guess! We parents hung out at a pub having a beer to bide our time. It was sunny and we walked a bit. But since the neighbourhood we were walking on was not so interesting, a beer seemed enticing, so that’s what we did!

I read A LOT on Saturday

In fact, half a book! I figured I would finish my bookclub book of the month “We Were the Bullfighters” by Marianne K. Miller either on Sunday or Monday. But I really couldn’t stop reading it, and I didn’t have any pressing stuff to do on Saturday, so I kept reading at every given opportunity. And done! The book is about the imagining of Ernest Hemmingway’s time spent in Toronto in 1923 working for Toronto Star newspaper as a journalist. And he starts his work covering a prison break of convicts from Kingston Penitentiary including the famous bank robber “Red” Ryan. The book is mostly about the lives of Hemingway and Ryan’s lives running in parallel throughout the time in the novel. The story was very gripping, and the details were well covered. Could the writing be better- yes, but it did not take away from the fast pace and the intrigue of the novel…and well, I couldn’t put it down in the second half of the book, so yes, I really enjoyed it!

Miscellany

Other things I did included some purging on the main floor. I guess spring cleaning has begun! I like to go space by space, weekend by weekend. Because if I think of the whole house, I would overwhelm myself out of doing it altogether. So small bite size pieces work for me. I also attended a yoga class on Saturday morning. And had a family dinner at Momo Ghar after my son’s piano exam…a yummy street foody spicy meal from Nepal, that was not so healthy, but very yummy…no I don’t feel guilty in case you’re wondering 🙂
