Thankful with Cake and School Play

It’s Thursday. Which means I am thinking about my week and being thankful for…

The Sun and No Wind

Morning Walk views

Ok, I have been very complainy lately about the weather. I know I don’t want to complain. But I still do. Does complaining in my head, and not aloud, count? I guess not. Anyways, it has been CHILLY! I meant, it’s just winter but in April! I don’t think that’s fair to us mortals to have to face such a long drawn winter…but well, no one can do anything about it, so we suck it up. But I can still find some positives…like as I am writing this, it’s actually sunny and not windy- a big improvement on the past few days. Yes, it’s still chilly, but well, I will take the sun today.

A Date with my Son

The School Play set ready to start again after the intermission

Yes, we do our usual Thursday afternoon after-school meetups. But this week, I had the chance to take him out to an early dinner followed by going to his high school for the school play 🙂 We had a great time watching the teenagers delight us, and A and I having a good time together doing something different. A great mid-week evening for sure!

That my Sourdough baking is doing so well

My sourdough focaccia was SO YUMMY!

I am aware that things will change when it heats up around here with my sourdough’s humidity and rising time and all that technicality. But for now, I have figured out how to make things work in my cold house. I really don’t want to jinx it, but my last four bakes, including focaccia and pizza bases have turned out fantastic. And that makes me happy. Because I did have a few bakes before when I was figuring out the right things to do, and the bakes were not great. I am thankful to all the wild yeast in the air for working their magic to make us fantastic pieces of loaves.

That I got to see Emma Donoghue talk about her latest book

Emma Donoghue’s interview at HotDocs Toronto

This week is my not so typical week- two outings in the evening to do fun culture things! Monday night I went to see Emma Donoghue with some of my friends, which I wrote about in this post. I loved hearing her stories about how the book came about and all her research that went into it, and about her writing and career in general. But she was also super entertaining with her quick wit and articulation…I am so thankful for my friend bring this to my attention, and me being able to go with my bookish friends!

For Neighbour Friends

My neighbour shared her Dad’s birthday cake with us

My neighbour came over on Sunday night with a cheesecake! It was her recently deceased father’s birthday, and I felt honoured that she decided to share that with us…We had tea and port with the cake, and just chitchatted around the dining table. A simple unplanned evening, and a beautiful way to end the weekend. Oh, and the cheesecake from Noctua bakery, was pretty yummy! I am thankful to have friends for neighbours…

And that’s my list…What are you thankful for this week?
