Thankful Thursday with Yoga

Thankful Thursday time once more.

Here is what my list looks like today…

My Yoga Practice

The Yoga Anatomy book I am reading in the mornings
The book I am reading every morning for 10-15 minutes

If you read my post three days ago, I mentioned that I am able to get some quality yoga time in my day because I am waking up early and full of energy these days. (Could this be because I haven’t been caffeinated all of 2025, I wonder…something to look into!). I am loving this very quiet time from 6 to 7 every morning. When the world is asleep and I can completely focus on my practice. I have been using up 10-15 minutes of this hour for reading “Yoga Anatomy” learning about how our body works. I am sure I was taught some of this stuff in my high school biology classes, but I certainly was not so invested in learning it then as I am now, even though I loved biology in high school. But now the stakes are different- I am seeking this information out and taking it in with my eyes and mind wide open. With some very specific drill exercises I am figuring out muscles of my body, or ways of engaging them that are completely new knowledge for my conscious mind…so amazing! Even though I get very tired by the end of my hour (all those long hold Downward Dogs are HARD!) I feel fulfilled. And thankful…

For Galette Des Rois

The crown and the figurine from eating the Galette de Rois
The cake itself was gone before I thought of photographing it 🙂

For the past few years we have been getting a King Cake or a Galette Des Rois every January from our local French Bakery. We obviously enjoy this puff pastry marzipan treat because it’s so very delicious, yes. But also for the game of who’s slice has the little figurine hidden between the layers of the pastry– that person gets crowned the king of the year…or queen :-). This year, my husband won the crown, and the treat was immensely enjoyed. For this little family tradition, to light up our January just that little bit admidst the darkness and the coldness of winter, I am thankful.

For my Body

Thankful for my body and all it allows me to do

I successfully managed to avoid caffeine and alcohol for all of January. And it was the easiest thing ever. I am able to exercise and get strong. I wake up rested. I can enjoy long walks (when the cold is not ripping my skin apart that is!). For all these joys of life, and for staying strong, I love my body and am utterly thankful to it. Because I know what joy it can bring me, it’s only fair that I treat it well, so we have a good time together in this life, to the best possible extent. Thank you body for allowing me all those Sun Salutations in the early morning even when it seems so very hard…

For Podcasts

My podcast feed this morning

Oh how I love my podcasts app! For any topic that I am looking for information on- I can find on a podcast- experts in that field talking about it, and giving their perspective on things…information is so widely available, for for a learning junkie like me- I am super thankful. This week, I have been listening about Panajali’s Yoga Sutras and the modern take on this ancient text. I particularly enjoyed this one. Thankful for all this knowledge presented in easily digestible form thanks to the beautiful thing called Podcasts!

For Winterset Hollow- the audiobook

A amazing debut novel in audiobook form read by the author- Winterset Hollow

For my gym listen of audiobooks, the last two weeks were spent with an amazing debut novel called Winterset Hollow where these modern characters seem to enter the world of their favourite children’s book, and things are not as cozy and nice as they seem! The language of this book is so rhythmic and poetic. The fairy tale aspect of it is portrayed with such vividness, I could see the movie of it running in my mind. The twists are wholly unexpected and mind-blowing. I loved this book, and highly recommend it. The author’s reading of the audiobook makes it extra special 🙂

What are you Thankful for this Thursday?
