It’s time to find things to be thankful for this Thursday from my week. Let’s see what I can come up with…
Books
This week I am thankful for all the good books in my life that are making me feel happy and interested in reading. Having good books going means I am excited to pick them up, rejoice in their great writing, and actually feel elevated from having them in my life. I am most happy reading, and as a joke equate reading to being as important as breathing for myself. Ok, yes, it’s a joke, and also a metaphor for it’s importance in a well lived curious life, IMHO. So with William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, George Saunder’s Lincoln in the Bardo, and Eiji Yoshikawa’s Musashi, I am sitting ecstatic in my reading life right now.
For Winter Tires
My car got its winter tires this week. We are set for the winter. I try not to drive on crazy snowy days. But sometimes one does need to venture out in icy snowy conditions. Winter tires are a big help both mentally, and with actual safety. So I feel thankful that we have the resources to get them for the season. Now I can drive with confidence 🙂
My art series is done!
I have been hard at painting my 20 mini paintings for the past few weeks. And now that they are all done, I feel relieved. And more importantly I love them! They turned out quite delightful. I feel a great sense of accomplishment having painted in a whole different style, and they turned out pretty well. To see them all together…I feel both pride and gratitude.
For having more good TV shows to watch
We finished watching HBO’s Succession. It was amazing. The acting in that TV show was top notch- what a treat to watch! And now we had a big good-TV-show-hole in our lives. Thankfully, there is much good stuff at our disposal to fill that hole- especially now that it’s winter, and being home is the default mode. We started watching FX’s Shogun on Disney last night. After only having seen the first episode, it is already promising to be amazing. Also based on all the Emmy’s the show has garnered, I am certain I will enjoy it. To watch all the scenes set so beautifully, learning about an old rich culture that is not so much in my knowledge range right now, is the added bonus. And it beautifully complements my listening to the translated-from-Japanese classic of Musashi.
My 400 Day Duolingo Streak
Learning Spanish 5 minutes a day is such a simple joy in my life. I only have the free version. But it’s great- it’s a no stress, no time-impact mini-learning that keeps my brain growing. And it helps when we travel south of US. I love my 5 minute learning, and am thankful to Duolingo for making it free, and actually fun to learn.
That’s all my list today.
Since it’s American Thanksgiving this coming weekend, it’s a great time to build a little gratitude habit- 5 things a week- easy peasy, right?!
