Another round of Thankful Thursday is here. And there is so much to be thankful for…
I am thankful for:
An amazing day away on Sunday…
With my husband.
The day spent in Niagara-on-the-Lake, a touristy city with lots of interesting distractions made for a wonderful day.
We had a traffic free drive listening to Greek and Roman myth comedy podcasts by Natalie Haynes (she is fantastic, btw!). Both of us had recently finished listening to her novel “Stone Blind” about the story of Medusa, narrated brilliantly by the author! So we were on a Natalie Haynes and Greek myth high. And her podcasts never fail to deliver. Seeing the peculiarities of the stories and characters through the present day lens, she makes them sound pretty funny.
Give it a listen if that is your cup of tea 🙂
We had a Starbucks gift card
that fed us some munchies and coffee when we got there.
I am not a Starbucks gal- I prefer local coffee shops or a beautiful espresso at home- but hey, a gift card given my a family member never hurts right?
And the best part is that we mostly used it all up- only 48 cents left over. So now I know that the card was well used, and will not, mostly, get wasted!
My Fair Lady at the Shaw Festival…
was so very well done!
It felt like watching the whole movie (yes, the production level was that high!) on stage!
Of course, I kept comparing the stage characters with the ones in the movie, having watched the movie a number of times, but I was very impressed with the whole thing- the singing, costumes, dancing, stage production, and of course the actors…they even tried to to get Eliza Doolittle’s costumes to be a great approximation to the ones Audrey Hepburn wore in the movie…
Except that watching it live was that much more exciting!
A three hour show (with one intermission) seemed like a great bang for the buck. And a fantastic day to spend a relaxing Sunday.
After the show we wandered in the beautiful sunshine a bit, and then it was time for our reservation for some
High Tea at the very lovely Prince of Wales hotel!
I know, what a treat right? I love this particular high tea for it’s beautiful setting and amazing food. The fact that a day out of the city feels like a vacation, adds to the fun vibe of the high tea.
We stuffed ourselves with goodies before heading out of town back home.
I am thankful that my husband and I got this very nice day out while our son is away at camp. We will have this memory to savor for a long time to come.
My Art Community
I am a part of an art collective called “West Toronto Artists”, and our mission is to work together for non-profit to make more artistic events happen throughout the year for the members.
On Tuesday night I got together with some of the artists at a local pub, and we planned our upcoming exhibition at a local gallery. There was lots of serious discussion, but also lots of laughs and fun brainstorming…the people are lovely, and the best thing is the feeling of belonging in a like-minded tribe. So thankful I get to enjoy this with artists from my neighbourhood.
For being able to get in the flow…
These days I am working on my website.
With that being the biggest work on my plate most days, I get to get in the flow of working on my website…with my son gone for the week, and us adults keeping life super simple, I am able to truly get into the focus mode while working on making a new website for my work.
I am excited about how it’s turning out. The hours of my afternoon that I am using for this task can get tiring (as I never have to sit for that long in front of a computer otherwise), but the satisfaction of having done good work, gotten into the flow, and seeing the beautiful product that I am able to create is quite satisfying.
For Farmers’ Market jewels…
I know I said this before, but oh these heirloom tomatoes…they are SO delicious! Our dinner salad is totally at a different elevated level with the gift of these tomatoes…
And they look so pretty, right? I must have spent a good 15 minutes photographing them when we first got them. And now they are mostly gone, but not forgotten!
And that, my dear friends, is my gratitude list for the week. Once I start thinking about it, so much comes to mind. And that is why this exercise is powerful.
