Thankful Thursday: Thanksgiving edition

Thankful Thursday followed by Thanksgiving here in Canada feels like an easy post to write 🙂

A wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at my dear friend’s home…

Thanksgiving dinner with dear friends…food’s all gone!

There was so much food, and so much laughter…a lovely lovely evening with friends who I’ve known for most of my adult life…nothing like getting together with all of them to share blessings of our lives, to laugh some, to be happy with each other…oh I certainly am thankful for the evening.

This book…Silk by Alessandro Baricco

My short and sweet read from the library- Silk by Alessandro Baricco

I read this tiny book on the Thanksgiving Monday, from start to finish. It is translated from Italian by Ann Goldstein, and is an intriguing book about a very intriguing character. Written in short chapters in 91 pages, the story moved fast, but it created this world of wonder, and people who are thoughtful and don’t speak everything on their minds. Which means as a reader, I am probing their minds. It was an easy book to read, but the flavor of it stayed with me. I am still thinking about what the characters are driven by. It’s amazing how much writers can say in such few words- seems like magic to me!

Some high tea with my family

High Tea at the Prince of Wales hotel with my family over the Thanksgiving weekend

Yes, we love high tea (another post about it here, especially at the Prince of Wales hotel. It’s a great decadent meal, and so different from the usual things I ever consume. So the treat-factor is high. Plus the elegance of it all adds to the drama of the experience. And because it is so very filling, its an early dinner for us even though it’s “tea”. Which means no more cooking or cleaning after…win win!

One Man, Two Guvnors

The live show at the Shaw Festival in Niagara on the Lake was the most hilarious live show I have ever seen!! Yes, the jokes were kind of under the belt at times, but it was all in good fun. And I was TOTALLY engaged the whole time…we came out of it smiling and exchanging notes on our funniest bits and reliving the experience. It was also very interactive with the audience, which added to the tension, and fun. We wanted to know about these super talented actors…such a great value for time and money- to spend laughing, seeing great acting, and writing. Too bad I cannot recommend you go see it anytime soon as we caught their very last show of the season. And I have a feeling that because it was their very last show, the actors completely put their hearts out in that particular show for the one last time…I am still smiling thinking about it 🙂

A wonderful Art Show with my community of artists

North by West Art show poster outside the gallery

I had a great show at the North by West Art show held over the past week at the Northern Contemporary Gallery, by the members of the West Toronto Artists. For starters one of my paintings- Echoes and Ripples, made it to the window display of the show.

And the whole show was so beautifully curated. All the diverse art of the 28 artists from landscape, to florals to abstract to portraits to still life- they looked SO good together- a great lesson in how to put such varied art together so they look good! I am so happy to have been a part of this, and to be able to have my art at the level of all these talented artists…it sure is a dream come true…

My heart is full of gratitude this week…how about you?
