Thankful Thursday: Parkas and Movies

Thankful Thursday has rolled around again. Which means I get to count my blessings once again.

This week, I am thankful for…

My Winter Parka

My in my winter parka when I first recieved it as a Christmas gift 2 years ago!

I hate to see it come out for the season, but once I wear it, I feel invincible…well, almost. Canadian winters for tropical bones like mine warrant a big reaction, and this lovely Fjallraven jacket of mine is it! So thankful I received this as a Christmas gift two winters ago. It certainly has made my winters a little bit easier.

Musashi

My audiobook Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa's is keeping me entertained in the best way possible

This audiobook is the longest I have ever tackled! And I am trying to really get into it, and through it. Which means I am listening to it any moment I can- in the gym, in the car, in the kitchen, puttering around the house…like any time no one needs to talk to me! And this immersion is making me appreciate this well written story that is always moving and making me think of the characters, the great translation that doesn’t feel clunky, and finally the fine narration…Without good narration, a great book won’t be a good audiobook. So for the immersion into 16th century world of Japan is something I am thoroughly enjoying and learning from, for that I am thankful.

For Teapots and Teas

I love my afternoon teas in nice teapots

Having switched from making single cups of teas in the afternoons, I have switched to making a pot. The soothing nature of a herbal tea, the warmth in this cold weather, the comfort of slowly sipping my way through a pot as I work on something or the other…makes me feel like an old lady, but one who’s in a happy spot 🙂 I am not into black teas, unless they are made into an Indian chai, but I love my herbal teas. Ginger and rooibos have to be my favorites. Having a pot of tea makes life that much more delightful.

For Sunday Morning Coffee Date with my love

Sunday morning date with hubby at Coffee and All That Jazz in Roncesvalles

Sunday morning my husband and I had a 90 minute wait to get snow tires in our car. We went to a cafe for coffee and treats. And since we had more time, we went to another cafe for coffees are hanging out. It was a delightful quiet morning with no agenda really once we got to the tire place. With good coffee shops around and ample time on our hands, it was an easy relaxing morning. So happy to have quality time with my love. We try to make time together each week, and I feel blessed that we are able to most weeks.

For access to movies and great TV shows

We are enjoying Shogun on Disney these days
Source: Hulu and FX

If you read my earlier post where I talk about the 4 movies I saw last week, I got thinking about that in the sense that when I was a child or even a young adult, watching good movies of my choice on a dime would not have been possible. I would have to source a DVD (or a VHS!!) from a rental store or a friend, if at all available. Also watching a TV show of high production value like Shogun, as I’m watching now, would have happened once in a decade, if at all? So when it comes to great TV, and ease of availability of movies of choice from all over the world and time periods, we sure are living in a golden age. I am thankful I have the resources to get most of my desired watching when I want. So thankful for good TV content especially in winter!

BONUS GRATITUDE:

My son working on his homework

For my son, who was working so intently on his homework at the dining table, it made me realize that I was just wasting away my time. So he inspired me to write this whole post in the little window of time between making dinner, and eating dinner. We both managed to finish our stuff in that sliver of twenty minutes or so 🙂

What are you grateful for this week?
