Thankful Thursday on a Friday

The days in my brain are all messed up I suppose. That’s why I started writing a Thankful Thursday post, and realized it’s Friday already! Oh well, I will just call it Thankful Week post, and rock it!

An Unplanned Lunch date with my husband

Lunch date with my husband
Quiche and soup…perfect lunch date with my husband

We usually go out for Wednesday breakfast every week. It’s our time to connect mid-week amidst all the busy-ness of the week, and rushing about to places and things. This mid-week respite of a time to catch up give us a time to just be together, enjoy coffee and some eggs, and have a later start to the work day. And it’s lovely. But this week, he was busy on Wednesday morning. So when I came home from the gym on Tuesday, my husband had an hour or so free, so we had lunch instead…at our favourite coffee shop in Roncesvalles- Fantail– all their treats and food are made in-house, and its all vegetarian. And they have a lovely quiche…so that’s where we went and had a lovely hour together before it was time to head back to the real world…

Sunny and Snowy!

My morning walk scene
Snowflakes were coming down…but can’t see them in this photo!

My morning walk on Wednesday was beautiful and interesting…the sun was rising, and the skies were bright, AND, snow flakes were coming down- all in the freshness of the morning air…it was so very lovely. The walks I take every morning before breakfast…they never fail to make me feel alive and amazing. I always come back rejuvenated and happy. And when the skies are a beautiful colour, or tiny little snowflakes are coming down, that just makes the morning walk more magical…Thankful to have this ritual in my day, and for magical mornings.

Found me some Pizza Flour

I found pizza flour, and am excited to make sourdough pizza base
Happy to have found pizza flour to make sourdough pizza base

With my last successful sourdough bake, I want to next make homemade pizza base. We usually get our pizza dough from a lovely Italian food store in our neighbourhood. And it turns out perfect. But I want to try my hand at making some of my own with my sourdough starter. And what better way to make it than with an actual pizza flour from Italy. I think the difference is, of course in the wheat grown in Europe compared to North America, but also in how the flour is milled. I am not looking to make a perfect base the first time, but to try and hopefully make them better with each iteration. And the magic of sourdough just makes everything better in life, no? I am thankful to have found a source of this flour close to home.

My Themed Book Club

The last time I met my book club friends a week ago, we were discussing “Island of the Sea Women” by Lisa See. A book about a tiny island off the coast of Korea, it is about this community where women of the island go to the sea diving for it’s bounty while the men mind the children. The diving skills are passed on from one generation of the women to the other, and they put themselves into peril every single time they go under water. My friend who hosted us for this bookclub had an ocean theme to the way she set the table…tissue paper waves in which we had to fish for our croissant sandwich “clamshells”. Also the crudités platter were fishy and octopusy 🙂 Such a delightful evening balanced by a heavy book…I am thankful for this community of book loving women.

My Sprout Garden

My sprouts garden in my kitchen gives me a lot of joy.
My little sprouts garden in my kitchen

I will write about this in more detail in a later post. But this little practice of taking care of my sprouts every morning a evening, and see them come alive…of just slowing down and be invested in noticing, nurturing and being calm and thankful is so very enriching for me. I love it! Not to mention all the nutritious sprouts I get to consume everyday as a result of this practice. I am so thankful to have this little garden that I get to take care of, and take care of myself in the process. It sure is a self care ritual, and that was not what I had in mind when I started this garden.

And that’s it for me. What about you?

What are you thankful for this week?
