Thankful Thursday has rolled around again. As always, life is to be thankful for. But lets see if I can make a list of things from the past week that I have gratitude for.
It’s light out in the mornings!
I know a lot of people prefer the late evening light in the winters. But the time change means that it’s light out earlier in the mornings and dark out sooner in the evenings. I personally like the morning light. My body gets the signal to be awake and going if I am able to see light out and go for my ten minute walk sooner rather than later. Also, I am OK to be in hibernation mode at home in the evenings (my default on a usual evening actually!). So the earlier darkness does not trouble me. So yay for the earlier morning light!
For this gift!
Remember how my husband and I went to the live taping of the TLDR podcast with special guest Matty Matheson, who is a chef and an actor in the famed TV show The Bear? Well, unexpectedly, we received a package on Saturday morning with my name on it. And having no idea who would send me anything out of the blue…well TLDR Podcast people sent me this latest book of recipes by Matty Matheson. That was quite a lovely surprise. My son has already eyed some recipes he wants to try soon….
For ideas and inspirations…
I am brewing with ideas of how I want to end this year, and projects I want to take on next year. I am also brewing with ideas of how I want to design my 2025 planner now that I have decided not to shell out $100 for a Hobonichi Cousin (they are lovely, but what I make will be more catered to my needs ultimately, right?). For all these ideas and inspiration, I am thankful. Because, all of November is the winter wasteland here in Canada. Didn’t author Herman Melville call his character’s grim feeling “damp drizzly November in my soul” to start Moby Dick? So it’s all these ideas and inspirations that I get to work on and look forward to that make this month exciting. Something else that I am hearing on the social media and podcast world is “A great year gets planned in November”. So with that idea, I am thankful to be inspired.
For health
This past weekend my son had a health scare. I won’t go into the details, but we were worried a lot. Thankfully it has passed. Thankfully he’s back to his normal happy sarcastic teenager self. Thankfully we are all living this normal life together as a family.
For home cooked food and family dinners
On busy weeknights, this seems to be the only time we all get to catch up with each other face to face…I am so thankful for the eating dinner together culture that my husband and I have insisted on for ever. Dinner, or any one meal- but dinner is when it mostly happens- is a time for us to sit down, and discuss our days and catch up. There is no distraction. Only home cooked food and each other’s company. It’s not a fancy meal. But it is wholesome- in more ways than just nutrition. I can’t imagine us not having this. So many families don’t seem to have this anymore with people’s busy schedules and kids extracurriculars. I would fight and try very hard before giving up this tradition in our family.
