Thankful Thursday Gratitude award goes to….
Spring Flowers!

They are everywhere, and they make my heart sing! After one long and cold winter, it’s actually spring…it’s so hard to believe! And because of the contrast of the long cold winter, this spring feels especially sweeter- like we’ve earned it or something. Like it’s not just what nature does in its own time, but something we humans deserve (yes us…not so much the birds and squirrels and other creatures so much) a nice spring and here it is 🙂 (I am kidding of course…). But I truly am thankful for this time of the year when the mud season is over, and summer is right around the corner. The temperatures are mild, the trees are in bloom, and walking outside does not feel like an assault on the skin, but like a treat. Before the heat of summer hits, I am going to savor this spring with gratitude.
For amazing books coming my way

Since I may not have picked them up on my own. I am talking about Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo. I wrote about this book yesterday. The only reason I read it (and even heard of it) is because it is the book for discussion for my son’s High School community book club this month. The Teen Fiction seems so far out of my realm of book selection. So, I am thankful I got to read this book, and enjoyed this very different sort of writing.
For My Art Practice

I may have mentioned this last week too, but right now, I am very much into making my paintings. They are not all perfect or amazing. But I am past judging my practice in that way. If I am spending time with my paints, if I am being experimental, if I am getting lost in the hours of making them, I call it a huge win! And that is exactly where I am at. Things are definitely not easy, but they keep me engaged in the best possible way, and I am loving it. I am so so thankful for the time and space in my life to have an art practice to get lost in.
For Dates

In recent weeks, I have been eating a couple of dates after dinner for dessert, and they are perfect! Their unique flavor is something I love, and their low glycemic index and their myriad nutrients, i am surprised I didn’t think of them before as perfect weeknight dessert material! Between my dark chocolate square and a couple of date along with a decaf Americano, I am set for the evening 🙂 Thank you Dates.
For Hugs
If you read my post on Tuesday, I wrote about all the things that were going wrong in my Sunday evening in the kitchen- from falling behind on weekly prep, to breaking glass, to spilling batter…The overwhelm of taking care of all the details, and making sure everything was done was getting to me so very much. And when all those accidents happened and I broke down, my husband’s hugs were what was most helpful. Him being kind, and asking me to take a break felt like the kindness and permission I wasn’t giving my own self. So it was great to hear it from someone else, and to give in. I am thankful for hugs, especially during stressful times.
