Thankful For My Garden

It’s Friday, and I just realized that I did not do a Thankful Thursday. So here I am full of gratitude for…

I Finished the Book

Finished my bookclub book in time- The Bookseller of Florence by Ross King
I finished it!

Yup, I had a long reading session yesterday evening because we had enough leftovers that my dinner making time was free to read instead! And that means I was able to finish The Bookseller of Florence, and feel ready for my bookclub discussion tonight. Also, overall, I think I really enjoyed the book, even though I know I was getting bogged down in all the details in the middle of the book. But I’m glad I read it, and am stupefied at how much research goes into writing a book like this! Thank the lord for passionate people who put in the effort and learning to bring us all these stories and information from ages ago. The book was about manuscript writing followed by books made in the printing press in the 15th century Florence, and all the politics around it.

My Morning Yoga is Amazing

6:30 am yoga class is doing good for me
Morning yoga class is fitting great in my life

I was so worried that I was taking on way too much. But the pull I feel for yoga, and the free morning in summer (thanks to no school for my son) meant that I took it on anyways- I bought a summer yoga pass and decided to go to 6:30 am class a few times a week. I have been for 4 morning in a row, and it really has not been a problem at all. I am home by 8-8:15, and still haven’t missed much at home. And the early wake time works great for me, because I just sleep better with one fewer hour at my disposal. The early morning summer light, and the chatter of birds from the open windows at the break of dawn help me get up without much trouble. And once I am at the yoga class, it feels like I was meant to be there. So it’s working out great!

My sourdough experiments

I am so happy I took on sourdough bread making this year. I am having so much fun with it, and we are all really enjoying my bakes. It helps that I am feeling experimental. I decided that making the same bread every time would make me bored, but having one solid recipe for busy time helps. Which means, that when I have the time, and the mental energy, I try to change things up and try something different. Yesterday, for the first time, I made a 100% rye bread. Rye is trickier to work with, so it was a challenge. Also, this bread was kneaded in a can of Guinness, and, had a cup full of nuts, seeds and dry fruits. And as always, I actually enjoyed making this bread. I am thankful for all the information I have at my disposal (thanks to the internet!), and all the ingredients that I can try with. And also to my family who is willing to go on this bread tasting adventure with me!

For my garden

My garden is bringing me joy this summer
My garden

Now that I took care of the weeds last weekend, and mulched it, and can actually see all the different plants, looking at the development and growth and blooming of flowers every day, and watering it, and seeing bees and butterflies in my garden is so gratifying. I am always lazy about gardening (not as much my thing as bread baking I suppose!), but when I do, I do feel great. I am thankful for the space, and the flowers, and summer.

For NYT Games

Playing NYT Games at lunch is very satisfying for me
Loving NYT Games

Ok, this is my guilty pleasure lately! At lunch time, when I finally get to sit down with my lunch after running around all morning getting breakfast and lunch ready, yoga in the summer, followed by gym, I play games on the New York Times website, and it’s so fun! My friends turned me onto this, so I blame them for giving me the gift of Wordle, Spelling Bee, Connections, Letter Boxed and Pips. Who knew simple games could be so entertaining, and good for my brain too, right? Anyways, I don’t feel too guilty because they are free, quick, and make me think, and give me time to really relax my brain from my long TO-DO list everyday.

What are you thankful for this week?
