I am going to make this summer a time for working on my quads.
Yes, I want bigger quads, and I feel like even after lifting consistently for 3 years, my quads haven’t caught up with the rest of my body.
I recognize that bodies are different, and that some people have more definition in some body parts sooner than others and vice versa. For example, my shoulders are doing very well, in my opinion 🙂
But, that does not stop me from putting in more work where I want to put in more work, where my muscles are slower to grow. Or maybe, being one of the biggest muscles of the body, they haven’t really gotten as much work as they need.
And with all of this in mind, I am going to focus on quad exercises each of the three times I usually go to the gym each week. Should be fun…right?!
Add this to my calorie deficit, it should be real fun!!
The exercises I am going to try to touch every week spread out over my training days are goblet squats, split squats, leg presses, regular squats and leg extensions.
I am excited for this new addition to my workout. But then I am always excited to try something new, until it gets not-so-new, and hard. That’s basic human psychology I guess!
Mark Sisson’s Sunday newsletter this week talked about exercise. He said it is not so much about calorie burn, but more about how those calories we consume get used up for repair, restoring glycogen, and muscle building and increasing insulin sensitivity, rather than being stored as fat when we exercise our bodies in various ways.
Because of the stress of the exercise, the body uses food up to manage the stress. And it doesn’t have too much left over for storage, which would be the case if a body is not going through any exercise stress.
Can you tell, I am trying to teach myself this information as I try to make sense of it as I type it out? That is one way I am motivating myself this morning to take on some goblet squats and split squats…and hope that I am not too sore tomorrow morning…
Wish me luck?
