Frugal Friday time once again. I have to say it was not a very frugal week. With Valentine’s Day (we went out for drinks and dessert before the evening crowds hit!), and me needing things for my art stuff as well as equipment for marketing, I feel like I have been spending a lot of money.
But here is what I did do:
Baking

I baked a lovely sourdough bread…not lovely looking (because it did not drop out of the banneton on into the loaf pan cleanly!), but oh so yummy! Having a slice with my lunch this week (with almond butter, if you’re wondering, or just butter-salt-pepper) is quite the treat. I do not enjoy bakery bought sourdough as much as my own, because they are barely sour! But mine you can taste. And I use whole grain flour. Which makes it even better!
Also my son baked sourdough pita bread for making himself quick snacks sandwiches with, or just enjoying with hummus. The best part is he is truly enjoying them, and knows what to do better next time 🙂
I also baked peanut butter cookies, because peanut butter was on a special a couple of weeks ago. So I bought a couple of jars, and now it’s getting used for baking 🙂
Roasting Reduced Roots

I also bought a few bags of root vegetables (turnips, rutabaga, beets and potatoes) about a week ago, from the reduced rack. They did not look great on the outside. But with some good washing and peeling they were perfect for roasting. So I roasted a huge batch of them over the weekend. And now they too are a part of my produce-heavy lunch…so delicious!
Scrap Paper Notebook

I started a 100 day project (more on this next week 🙂 ) and I needed a little 100 page notebook to write down my daily progress and notes on. Of course, my not so frugal brain went to the idea of buying a cute little notebook to write in- something easily held in the hand, and of a nice bright colour as I was picturing it…but then my frugal brain kicked in and reminded me of the NO-BUY ZONE of my year from now until June. Which means buying nothing that is not absolutely needed. And so, I looked through my stash at home. Did not feel like cracking open a whole new notebook since they were all over 100 pages or under. And so was born my scrap paper notebook…tear one-sided printed paper in half. Fold each half in half so the printed side gets hidden. Do this till you have 50 folded papers. Clip them together, and et voila!
Walking

I am still walking everywhere I can. In particular to the gym and my yoga class. Both in extreme cold and extreme snow. Which means saving on gas, as well as public transit, and getting lots of movement…loving it!
Reduced Milk

Yup, I buy these because I ferment it to make yogurt. So they get “spoilt” anyways. And save me some moolah both on the milk, and home-made yogurt is cheaper than bought yogurt…win-win!
