My 100 Day Project

The official 100 Day Project started on Sunday, February 23rd. When I heard about it at the beginning of February, my mind started whirling right away…what can I do for 100 days? The wheels were spinning wildly!

I am not new to the 100 Day project, or some form of it.

  • I have done 100 days of Drawing.
  • I have done 100 days of Watercolor Paintings
  • I have made a 100 9”x9” abstract acrylic paintings to keep myself busy in a great way when COVID hit.
  • Last year, I played with colour mixing for 100 days. This project was a lot of fun, and tiring and eye-opening. I have written about my planning and experiences here and here and here.

Last year, when I finished the project, I did not see myself do this for a few years atleast…yes, it was a lot of work, and I was glad to be done!

But when the folks who host this challenge announced the date earlier this month, my thought was…what do I want to expand my knowledge and experience with?

Because a 100 day project is a great time and commitment to get better or deeper into any learning, or creative endevours one wants to get into or better at.

Even with my almost burn out last year, I was not blind to the value it provided me every time I undertook it.

The first idea, and the most obvious one that jumped at me, and that just had to be it, was Ashtanga Yoga.

I have made yoga a big part of my year so far. I am practicing longer, more consistently, and attending in-person classes. I am reading about it from different angles, I am listening to podcasts. I am thinking more about how the philosophy applies to my life.

So yoga had to be it. And because I was so bubbling with excitement, I could not make myself wait for another 3 weeks to get started!

I had to start the next day!

Having done the 100 day project so many times, I have realized I am not ever going to be able to do it perfectly and neatly in a 100 day span. I may have to take time off for some reason or the other. But I do mean to show up for 100 days even though the total span may be 105 days, or whatever.

And with a trip away during my 100 days this year, I still have to figure out if I will be halting the project during the trip, or making it’s scope smaller, or keep on going…we will see.

So getting a head start is not a bad thing. Especially when the motivation is high!

  • My goal is to do yoga for 100 days straight.
  • My goal is to do it for 30+ minutes every day.
  • My goal is to do Ashtanga sequence (moving forward into the sequence steadily) for 6 days, and restorative yoga for 1 day each week. (And time permitting, to do drills for more strength and flexibility with various movement patterns as well)

I found myself scrap papers around the house to make a very low-tech “notebook” to record my progress through the 100 day project. And I was off to the races the very next morning!

I started on February 5th, and am already past the 3 week mark.

So far, I am proud of my progress with the project. I am feeling motivated to show up every morning at 6 AM on my yoga mat. I am feeling like I am making progress with my body understanding the asanas better every day.

And that’s it…my 100 Day Project.

I am sure I will be writing about it a few more times before I am done 🙂
