For some reason I have been waking up super early these days…an hour or so before I need to be up.
I even turned off my alarm since I haven’t needed it in a while- last 2 weeks atleast.
And I figured that if I do sleep longer, I want to get up once my sleep cycle is done. I absolutely hate being woken up in the middle of my sleep cycle- that’s when we feel more tired even when woken up at a decent time. But once the sleep cycle is done and I am kinda awake, getting up is easy-peasy.
Anyways, sleep is short for me these days. And I haven’t been feeling tired. And in case I do, I catch a 15-20 minute cat nap after lunch and life is good!
But I absolutely cannot sleep longer than my early wake times these past two weeks even though I have been lying in bed till my usual wake up time of 6 am, and just be in my head.
I finally decided to do things differently. And use my time wisely, if I am going to be up that early.
So on Thursday morning, I got up as soon as I was up…around 5:15. And used up my bonus time to spend on my yoga mat doing a longer (45 minutes) of a practice instead of my usual 10-15 minutes on a weekday.
I figured if I am going to be getting up early, I may as well use this extra time to work on one of my 2025 goals which is to go deeper with my yoga practice.
Because, going deeper with my practice and mobility aren’t going to magically happen.
I have to make changes, for change to happen.
Which means more intentional, as well as, longer practice.
To understand deeper the nuances of the movements and strength building. To go slower without the clock ticking the seconds away over my head. To take the time to breathe through the movements.
And if my body refuses to sleep in the morning, well, it sure is the best time to practice when my world is peaceful, and I have bonus time without any other commitments.
So I have been doing this for the past 4 days with my Alo Moves app and it has been wonderful! Thanks to having this wonderful app, I can practice anytime and anywhere. And having world class instructors take me on a journey of yoga that I truly appreciate. Because it takes me deeper into my own self.
I am not going to wake myself early to do this, because sleep comes before yoga. But if I’m up, I have decided not to linger in bed, but get on to my yoga mat and get a good practice session going.
So far I am loving this quiet contemplative time with my body and breath.
Let’s see how far I go…
