It’s officially spring. But the weather outside is not saying that, yet. And that makes me…annoyed? Being cold for so many months, my body and brain crave for the hope of spring, the hint of warmth, and just a fewer layers, or atleast thinnner ones.
Yes, it has kinda gotten warm I guess…from negative teens in January and February to positive single digits in March. But that, for me, is still winter! It’s cloudy most days…like right now as I’m typing this. And that does not help my mood.
Yup, its fair to say that I am totally done with winter, and would like to move on to real spring as the calendar tells me it is. But who tells nature?
Yesterday morning when I opened my weather app to see the temperature of the day, it was somehow on the page for Playa del Carmen in Mexico (we have been there a few times). 26 degrees! At 7 AM!! I was JEALOUS! And then turning the app to Toronto page, here we were clear of freezing by a mere 2 degrees…how fun right?
It really does seem like the whole northern hemisphere is in the spring mode, or even summer (hello, New Delhi!), but here we are teetering around freezing mark. Not fair!!
Ok, I guess after all that complaining, I need to look for positives. There is more bird activity and sounds in the mornings. My favourite, robins, are back in town, and they make my morning walks delightful 🙂 There is green stuff popping out the ground, and the maple trees are definitely showing budding flowers. So besides what the weather is saying, nature is going about its spring business. And that way, there is definitely hope…but the problem is that it’s all so slow…I haven’t stopped using my winter parka. And that for me is a sign that it is STILL WINTER!
Oh well. Can’t do anything about it. So I guess, I will slowly wait it out. It will get warm again.
I remind myself of my lush backyard in August, and how delightful it is to spend whole weekends sitting on the deck eating, reading and having lazy conversations with whoever is around. Or to just watch bird and squirrel activity. Those days will return. Layers will get shed.
And home will have the best weather than anywhere else in the world…soon enough.
Until then, let’s put on the layers and stay warm…
