Frugality in the Hard Times

It’s Frugal Friday Time once again.

With the world going crazy, frugality seems like a good practice to adopt.

Canada and USA are trade warring. What that means for the future is increased expenses for us general folks. And lost jobs. And businesses suffering.

In such times of hardship, I believe it’s a good idea to make do with less.

To use fewer resources, to spend less on things that we don’t value much. To live within our means. To buy what is of utmost need.

Can we use our leftovers for a creative new dish rather than ordering from Uber Eats?

Can we mend and wear the clothes we already have rather than buy new ones?

Can we borrow books and movies from the library?

Can we exchange stuff and services with our neighbours and strengthen our connections in the process?

Can we go for walks and meditate and spend time with family rather than soothe with alcohol and junk food during stressful times?

Can we be creative with making simple things from stuff around the house rather than buy more and more and more?

Can we dig into our freezers and pantry to create a few simple meals at home without requiring more grocery store visits?

Can we dig out some board games or jigsaw puzzles for simple family entertainment?

Can we be mindful and intentional when we do decide to spend on something not of everyday use?

This is a tiny list of what is possible when we do decide to do with less. But it’s a starting point to get more creative and adapt the list to fit our individual needs.

I am going to be thinking more on these frugality terms than ever.

This is the time to tighten all our belts, and what better way to do it than to be creative about it, take joy in the process and have pride in accomplishing our frugality goals.

Let the frugality games begin…
