I did it! I went to my very first 6:30 am Mysore Yoga class this morning, and it was fantastic!
I didn’t sleep very well last night for multiple reasons:
- My husband was out of town, and it’s weird to be in bed by myself
- I was anxious about my alarm going off early (usually I don’t wake up to alarms)
- I was excited about getting to my yoga class
- I was playing out my early morning in my head so I make it to class on time
Yup, my head was too full of thoughts for me to get deep into my sleep. But waking up was not too hard. Maybe because I was so anxious to get up and go!
Maybe I will need a nap this afternoon?
Even with my early waking up and leaving the house, I wanted to get some of my morning routine in- they make me feel grounded in the day, and I don’t want to skip them as much as possible
So I did my 15 minutes of meditation in bed. Followed by getting ready (clothes laid out the night before). And then another 15-17 minutes of writing my morning pages.
Then I came down to have my supplements- Vitamins B, C and D along with omega-3. Followed by my morning hit of protein- whey protein, peanut butter powder and collagen (which I have pre-measured in a little jar for the morning) mixed in water.
And then, I grabbed my phone and other stuff (yoga mat, water, towel- laid out the night before), and left for a 12 minute fast walk (15 minutes at normal pace) to the studio.
SIDE NOTE: No, I don’t need coffee to wake up…I mostly drink decaf! And always for pleasure 🙂
I was amazed at how much traffic there already was before 6:30 am. Usually when I go for my yoga class after 8 am on the weekends it is almost dead!
I walked fast, and was already sweaty when I got there. So I kinda felt bad when my teacher was adjusting me. But, I’m sure she’s used to it.
I had a wonderful 75 minutes of yoga…I could have gone on longer (for 2 hours in fact!). But that is the beauty of Mysore…you do your own practice in your own time, and get one-on-one advice and adjustment from the instructor. Maybe tomorrow I will stay longer…
I was so happy to be there. I loved having such a dedicated time for yoga, and not having to stuff it in the morning for 10 minutes in between kitchen chores.
I plan to use my summer pass well…and hopefully get a little bit deeper into my practice by the time September rolls around. I also made a little calendar of the dates my summer pass covers, and I will mark all the days that I attend a class. My aim is to see how much less I can make each class count by attending as many as possible, with sanity of course!
Looking forward to tomorrow morning already. Tomorrow’s added challenge is going to the gym after breakfast as well. Hopefully, at the very least, with today’s early wake up time, and knowing how the early morning will play out, I will get a restful night’s sleep tonight!
