A Week of Movies For Me!

It’s been a movie week for me.

I hardly ever watch movies, because, well, who has the time.

And this past week I watched FOUR!

Yup! I guess, winter must be in the air…With Sault Ste. Marie, ON and around being buried in snow, we here in Toronto have no reason to pretend it’s not winter. Snow is not here yet, but it sure is cold. And my TV has enough distractions to offer me. Also, my couch is nice and comfy, so movie time it is!

So, what did I watch? Nothing very new, but all feel good, easy watching stuff that made life a little bit more cheerful.

Here is my list.

Movie Poster for The Devil Wears Prada

On Tuesday, my son was home early from school. So it turned out to be a good afternoon to pop some corn and get comfortable with Devil Wears Prada from 2006 with him. I warned him it may be too girly and fashiony for him. But he actually enjoyed it. I think that movie is more about human behaviour hidden behind the crust of the fashion magazine world, that it has become a classic of our times. And may I add that I am a big Meryl Streep fan. So it was a big treat for me to re-catch this classic fifteen years later!

Movie Poster for Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris

On Thursday night I was home alone with the boys away on their own endeavors out in the world. After having had a long and productive day at work, I wanted to catch something light on TV while eating dinner (we never do that for family dinners!). Browsing through Netflix, I came across another fashion movie, and hit play. I wanted to watch this one for a while and had it on my list to watch, but the opportunity never showed up. And today was a perfect time to catch Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris from 2022- the right amount of time window, no one to bother me, light and easy. I had a great time! Of course, things worked out too easily and perfectly for Mrs. Harris whenever it was needed by the directors. Or the characters were mostly really nice, or caricature “bad”. But who’s thinking? Another feel-good happy ending saga for me. I slept easy that night 🙂

Movie poster for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

On Friday night hubby was away. So my son and I had another evening lying long in front of us. And I had the most brilliant idea to share 1986 movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with home- the classic teenage comedy that holds its charm to the brim almost 40 years later still! My son absolutely loved it, laughed along, and is going to tell his friends all about it! Which means it was a successful movie night. We both had big smiles on our faces when it was all done.

And finally, Saturday night movie with my husband that we ended up finishing on Sunday: a 2023 British movie called Wicked Little Letters starring Olivia Coleman and Jessie Buckley. A movie set in times after the Great War, and about people in a small seaside town of England where a lady, and later a lot of other people, start receiving nasty letters from an unknown source. This movie is a black comedy, with great acting. And an interesting premise. I did enjoy watching this one a lot. It was different, interesting and very well done.

All in all, I enjoyed all the four movies I ended up watching last week. Not sure if I will be watching movies any time soon, or which ones, but for now, I am happy I saw these.

When I had time in my previous life (aka pre-motherhood), I used to be a movie buff.

So my love for cinema remains.

But now it comes in small doses.

And sometimes in spurts 🙂
