Listening to chef and actor Matty Matheson live last Thursday night was quite an experience!
He was a guest on the live stage recording of the TLDR podcast by Wealthsimple. The podcast itself is fantastic if you’re Canadian, and if you have any interest in the financial world and it effects culture and life and society.
Well, I am a fan of the podcast, and I bank with Wealthsimple, and I love the TV show The Bear.
So when I got an opportunity to participate in a lottery to win 2 tickets to watch the live recording of the said podcast with a special guest- Matty Matheson- I was on board!
And when I did get the tickets…it was a date night with my husband at the Paradise Theatre on Bloor West 🙂
To put faces to the voices that I know and enjoy on the podcast was very interesting- surreal almost…to know that these voices actually have faces and bodies.
The discussion about whether Canada sucks when it comes to innovation and growth was interesting, if also tinged with humor in the usual TLDR fashion.
But then Matty Matheson came on the stage, and owned it!
With his casual down-to-earth and unpretentious sincerity, it was impossible to not like this guy.
And then his wisdom showed through in his telling of his life, things that helped him get through his tough times, growing his business, his team. In his handling of his relationships amidst his busy traveling life, his family, and his constant desire to be there for his extended family. He talked about his money troubles, and told us exactly how much he bought his house for in Fort Erie, Ontario.
Because he said “he has the gift of helping them out”.
Not because he’s bigger and better than them in life, but because he gets this gift, this honor to be in a position in life where he can extend a helping hand when required…
I think we can all learn some down-to-earthness from this guy.
His other mantra that I think I am going to keep for myself is that when he’s trying things and failing, he tells himself, “I’m not there yet,” so that means keep going.
I am going to extend it for myself and say…
“I’m not there yet, so no need to stop yet…let’s keep going.”
So much to take from yesterday’s talk.
I can’t wait to listen to the actual podcast when it does come out. It will be a good one when it does get released, I promise 🙂
And with Matty’s sage words,
