Another edition of Thankful Thursdays!
I love to write these posts because it really makes me look at my week, and count all the small and big blessings that passed my way. And that never fails to put me in a good place in my head.
So here goes my list of the week:
My son started High School last week…
and it went as smoothly as we could have not even imagined!
It’s the first time my son is in a proper classroom setting since we homeschooled for a number of years, and then he was in a lovely tiny Reggio-Emilio inspired school. So a classroom full of 20-30 kids with desks is a very new concept for him (one week old at this point!), and he seems to be taking it in stride and moving ahead!
And it helps that the school itself is trying hard and well to make the new 9th graders feel super welcome.
So hopefully, it keeps going as well as it started.
The bounty of the farmer’s market
Our Farmer’s Market is our place to hang out every Saturday morning we are home in the summer (and early fall).
And, it truly is hard to not get enticed to buy the beautiful produce on display. Especially since my family loves fruits and vegetables. I buy minimal produce at the grocery store during the market season, just so my husband can go gaga over the fresh stuff at the market!!
(Yes, he’s hard to control when it comes to the produce at the market!!). Our haul this week was
some red carrots
eggplants
pears
peaches, and
salad mix.
Oh, and poblano peppers…
And this is me being super vigilant about us not over-buying. Coz, we don’t want to waste food, or overspend, right?
My husband cooking dinner on a weeknight…
He is the breadwinner, which means he’s working Monday to Friday. And I am the homemaker. Our life runs smoothly with this division of labor. We don’t have to both stress about getting everything done all the time.
That being said, he does like to cook something special once in a while.
Something he is excited about.
And he likes shopping for the ingredients, take his time and make us something that is different from our usual affair.
For me this is a bigger treat if it happens on a weekday! So when he decided to buy the eggplant from the farmer’s market, and make us this yummy spicy sauté of eggplants and potatoes, I was very supportive of his efforts. ☺️
With a side of brown rice, lentils and salad, this dish was the STAR
And a great welcome from my usual cooking and flavors
And a break in the Monday routine of cooking for me…
WIN-WIN!!
Thankful for flowers…always
They give a great splash of colours to the home.
And more importantly, for me, they give me a subject matter to draw! Yup, I am strategic about getting things that would give me good drawing opportunities- like picking the most shapely sweet potato, or getting leaves of a certain shape from outside. And of course buying flowers. And well, here are my muse for my next drawing.
And getting some orchids mean that they last longer than a bouquet. So a bigger bang for the buck. Although, I do need to figure out how to take care of them…I have tried buy fail to keep them alive after a couple of months…
For cool, but not cold weather…
Last Saturday was COLD.
Not winter cold, but too cold too fast that we had to turn on the space heaters in our house.
That I did not appreciate!
But, now is back to being cool mornings, me needing a little hoodie to go for my morning walks, but the days turning to nice warm (not HOT!) temperatures. Temperate temperatures make for happy people. And thankful people, especially with the sun shining out.
I love September for it’s sensible temperatures, and it’s gentle swing into Fall. So I am thankful it’s here, and loving it 🙂
(Having said that, this weekend is looking HOT!!)
And that is my list for the week!! 👍
