Thankful Thursday: Summer Edition

Thankful Thursday it is once again…and boy, am I thankful!

September is a sort of new beginning…

A new year or sorts for a number of folks like me. With summer gone- a season of gatherings with friends, and outdoor plans and being lazy with the relaxed schedules (since the kids are home!), September is the other January of the year for me. Suddenly everything is ON- schools, offices not slacking any more. No more planning fun activities all the time. No more going away places in the middle of the week.

With that feeling of the “holidays” being over, I get to look back at the summer gone, and feel oh so thankful for all that I got to experience and do…

We just came back from a family trip to Portugal!

How lucky am I to have had that experience and opportunity. It was a short trip, but we managed to pack a lot. The weather was fantastic. Nothing went awry. We ate their famous custard tarts (pastel de natas) every single day- need I say more? 🙂 See tomorrow’s post for more details on our trip.

My son and I shared some quality time at my gym

I am thankful for this coz, well, I am glad he’s learning how to take care of his body, and how important muscle is and how to go about building it. He has been exercising at home before school most of last school year, but going to the gym has showed him how to take it up a notch. And I am thankful he has some basic knowledge at this point.

All the raspberries we got to pick and eat from our backyard!

There was SUCH a bounty this year, that we actually started to get sick of it after having some in our breakfast (with granola or cottage cheese), lunch (the side of fruit), and dinner (in the salad). I am so happy I have some of this very natural, organic goodness from our own backyard frozen to enjoy the rest of the year.

Weekend away with my hubby

I wrote about this in another post. We spent a day in Niagara-on-the-Lake watching My Fair Lady at the Shaw festival, and having High Tea at the fabulous Prince of Wales hotel. That was one amazing date with my love. So so thankful for all the quality time I get to spend with him.

Away in the wilderness to kick off summer!

Also thankful for the week away we had at the very beginning of summer at the end of June. Since my son’s school ended before July we were able to sneak in a week away at a cottage on an island in the middle of the Killarney Provincial Park. It was just fabulous- the lake, the hikes, life in a cottage. What was troublesome was the bugs- all the mosquitoes and deer flies and horse flies. But thankfully we were in a cottage and not camping. And somehow we managed a very buggy hike up the mountain of Silver Peak. A simple, beautiful time with my family to kick start this amazing summer…so very thankful.

That’s my short version of summer gratitude. I know I can come up with a whole lot more. But that would be a very long post. So I will stop right here.

What are you thankful for, for the summer of 2024?
