I know it’s Friday, but I wanted to do an appreciation post today…just to notice all the good things in my life. So here is my list as I’m thinking about it:
My Sinuses have calmed down
This week I had a terrible sinus headache day and night. Along with my ear infection, my sinus pain meant that my entire face was feeling unhinged, out of place, in distress. I had to get out of bed in the middle of the night to get some Tylenol so I could sleep. And even when it wasn’t painful there was the general heaviness in my head. Thankfully that has calmed down. Now I just have to get over my ear infection, which atleast, is not painful, just fuzzy and white-noisy…any improvement in health seems like a big deal, and I am very thankful for that!
A Good Book
I finished reading A Quality of Light by Richard Wagamese for my bookclub earlier in the week. I didn’t think a week was enough to read a 330 page book for me with all the busy-ness, but I couldn’t put the book down! So I was done in 4 days…yay! I really enjoyed the top-notch writing, the memorable characters and interesting story, and the very thought-provoking ideas about a very present situation in our societies for ever. I would love to read more by the author, and to think he did not get any formal education after grade 9! I am floored…
Diwali
It was Diwali on Monday, and we had a tiny celebration here at home with some gratitude and prayer, some good food, and sparklers to end the evening…simple and sweet. Diwali is crazy big in India and I grew up with that, but I feel like it would be too much for me to take at this point in my life, and I am ok with keeping it small. And when we do have family and friends to celebrate with, that would be lovely too. Just because it is huge in India, I do not feel the need to make a big deal out of it. It’s the sentiments of love, good will and hope that count, no?
Wednesday Breakfast with the Fam
Usually its me and my husband who go for a date breakfast every Wednesday morning. But this week my son had his 6 month post orthodontic appointment first thing in the morning, so we all went for breakfast before the appointment. It was lovely to have him join us. With his life getting busy, and his needs changing, we parents are happy to get whatever family time we can get with him.
Back To Yoga
I took two mornings off from my early morning yoga class thanks to my sinus trouble. It felt like something was off…like my schedule was not in a good balance, and I needed to be in a meditative flow to feel normal. Today I changed that and made it back to my class even though waking up was hard. All of it- the walks to and from the studio, the calm and beautiful studio, the practice, the same people showing up morning after morning- it’s all so lovely. I am so happy with my decision to have signed up for my one year pass, so I could keep doing this every day. Winters will be interesting for the early morning walks…but I will worry about it when I need to. So far, great!
And finally, it’s fall…the morning are just beautiful, the light outside has a glow, and it just makes me happy, and feel alive to be outside on a sunny morning…
