Appreciating Naps and more

It’s Appreciation Thursday around here.

Today I appreciate that…

I Finally Finished

First page of Richard III Play by William Shakespeare
Finally DONE!

Richard III play by William Shakespeare! It only took me like 3 weeks. There were other books that needed to be read. I had not enough reading time, or at all on some days. And I just was too all over the place to get into it. But the last 2 acts were amazing. Once I was there in the play, I just had to keep reading. And making reading time thanks to 75 Hard meant that I had no choice but to read. So I finally finished, and besides all the scattered reading, I really enjoyed the last bit. I know this is a good play that deserves better attention. So I plan to read it again once I am done with my Shakespeare Project. In fact, I plan to re-read some of my favourite plays once I’m done reading them all. But for now I am happy to have finished this long drawn read.

My Art Practice

Me with my paintings at an art show earlier this month

Yes, after a long summer break, and picking the pieces back again in September, I am finally feeling that it’s gotten off to a good start and picking up pace. I am making stuff, experimenting, spending quality time in the studio, and feeling excited about things. This is the best place to be for an artist. Sometimes we run into blocks, or get derailed by life, but to keep making and being excited- that is a sweet spot to be in. So so happy to be here, for now.

I have New Shoes

My new Blundstone boots
I like the detail around the elastic on these new boots of mine!

Blundstone Boots are a part of my existence in this country where its cold more than warm. I have had my original pair since 2017 or so. But this last winter their sole just cracked through. They look fine on the top, but are definitely done on the bottom. So with fall here, and me in need to good sturdy everyday shoes, my husband took me shopping for a new pair. This morning is definitely feeling like fall, so I am so thankful to have these new pairs to tide me over. When we went shopping last Sunday it felt like a summer afternoon, and wearing socks and boots felt ridiculous! But fall had to be here sooner rather than later. And well, here it is!

Getting ready for Thanksgiving

A feast to come at Thanksgiving
Not from Thanksgiving, but I get reminded of Fall colours

I am happy we have Thanksgiving weekend when we get to see our dear friends of many many years! We haven’t met since the start of summer. So it has been a while, and I am looking forward to catching up with everyone, and sharing some good food. I am baking a pumpkin loaf to take. Also, I will be roasting some sweet potatoes. Yes, it is finally that season of spices and sugar and winter squashes and root vegetables…so lovely!

My Afternoon Naps

In my busy days of going on to one thing after the other that starts at 4:45 am and ends at 9:30 pm, my afternoon naps are a little island of calm. I love it. I look forward to it. I get such solace from knowing it’s coming. On days when I am unable to schedule it in because there are other things going on…well, those are hard long days. But, today is not a hard long day. Because I have this beautiful nap on my couch to look forward to. Knowing it’s coming, makes the world feel alright.

Lots to appreciate this Thursday…what are you happy about in your life?
