This week feels hectic. Thankfully, there is a long weekend looming for us Canadians with our Thanksgiving this weekend. I will surely be thankful for it. Especially because we are seeing some dear friends on Saturday for feasting and sharing laughs. What a blessing…
Other than that I have no other plans for the weekend so far. And that works great with me. That gives us the flexibility to do something relaxing, make our own plans (hiking if the weather is nice, or go to the movies if we are feeling adventurous!), or get started on some decluttering which I have been craving to do for a while but haven’t gotten around to.
A relaxing yoga class in the mix would be very welcome too. And I have a couple of recipes I would like to make/bake.
See, I already have so many ideas brewing that I am sure my weekend will get swallowed up in no time. And that’s why maybe it’s a good idea to plan the weekend with exactly the things I want to do, as Laura Vanderkam suggests in her time management advice and books.
I would divide my weekend days in 3 parts each- morning, afternoon and evening. And then figure out what I would like to do in each of these chunks. Not overfill the days, but not waste good valuable time either. And looking at the weather beforehand will certainly help with the planning.
As I am writing this, I realize that I have been writing a lot about planning lately. And that reflects my mood this fall so far. I am trying to be efficient with my time, and get all the things done that feel important to me. I turned 45 this summer, and as my birthdays go by, I get more stronger willed about using my limited (and counting down) time on this planet as best as I can. There is still much to do. And planning is the only thing that will get me there. I can’t wake up everyday and then figure out how I am going to use my time today. Without knowing what all I want to do, and how to fit them like Tetris pieces in my life, there is no way I can do anything much.
And this being intentional about all the things I want to do also have to include intentionality about all the things that are not worth my time, along with making space for time to rest and relax. Because I don’t know about you, but my brain gets fried by the end of every week…thank god for weekends, right?! I love one day of the weekend to be home without big things on the agenda but catching up on chores around the house. And that catching up on chores and meal prepping then helps me be super efficient with my time during the week when I really need it.
With all of that in mind, I will be giving my long weekend some thought. Sharing it with my family to see what ideas they have, and then deciding on the best plan of action to have a relaxing AND fun Thanksgiving weekend…that is the plan for today 🙂
