Oh lovely Friday…I am so glad you are here! I am looking forward to having a good weekend…both busy in turns along with relaxing.
Saturday is a long driving day to pick up some organic pears from a farm…how exciting is that! I am hoping to eat a lot of them, but also preserve some. Pear jam and pear pie anyone? 🙂
I am also hoping to buy maybe half a bushel of tomatoes from the farmers’ market to preserve- freeze them, and purée them. Because the ones we bought last Saturday were so intensely delicious!
I am not usually a food preserver. It is too much work for me, and I don’t have space to put all that food.
But this year, I have the urge to do some. Not too much mind you.
And it helps that different fruits happen at different times so I don’t have to do much all at once.
August was for taking care of peaches. July for blueberries.
And now for pears and tomatoes.
I also fermented a big batch of hot peppers that I am looking forward to consuming over the coming months.
Maybe combining some tomatillos with the fermented peppers to make a nice salsa- now that’s getting my mind racing 🙂
Besides produce, I will also be “preserving” butter by making it into ghee. That is a simple process that makes a delicious ever lasting healthy fat. And it goes brilliantly with Indian spices.
Can you tell I am excited by all this preserving, making stuff?
I am also excited about making some buckwheat crepes I enjoyed both in Paris and in Montreal- I guess it’s a French thing that I never heard of before going to Paris? But my twist on it would be to ferment the batter for a day or two before I make the crepes…just like dosa batter. And see what comes out of it. Wish me luck!!
My husband is also excited to try his hand at making us a vegetarian Paella- I know that doesn’t make much sense in the Spanish sense of the dish, but hey, who can stop us? We had some paella recently in Montreal, and he said he can make it much better for us at home, and so I had to ask him to prove it so we can have a delicious dinner out of that claim 🙂 It’s a win-win!
So lots of kitchen busyness coming our way…and I am excited for it all! I will take pics and post in a future post.
