I was wrapping up May in my planner yesterday. With wrapping up I mean that I have a double page spread in my self-made planner at the end of each month where I write the highlights of the month, along with all the books I read that month.
When I was listing the books, I was shocked to see that I had read (or heard) 10 books in the month of May! That seems like a lot no?
Here are my May reads:
- To The Lighthouse- Virginia Woolf- Paper Book- Fiction
- To The Lighthouse- Virginia Woolf- Audiobook- Fiction
- Henry V- Willliam Shakespeare- Paper Book- Play
- Tiny Experiments- Anne-Laure Le Cunff- Paper Book- Non-Fiction
- The Way Of Integrity- Martha Beck- Audiobook- Non-Fiction
- Margo’s Got Money Troubles- Rufi Thorpe- Audiobook- Fiction
- Clap When You Land- Elizabeth Acevedo- Paper Book- Fiction in Verse
- The Art of the Interesting- Lorraine Besser- Paper Book- Non-Fiction
- Jane Austen At Home- Lucy Worsley- Audioboo- Non-Fiction
- Solitude- The Science and Power of Being Alone- Netta Weinstein, Heather Hansen, Thuy-by Nguyen- Audiobook- Non-Fiction
Yes, I am counting the To The Lighthouse book twice because I did go though it twice. And that means I spend time and effort on it two times, so it does count!
I am happy to see that I have equal number of audiobooks and paper books. Audiobooks are definitely easier- I don’t have to make time to sit down and just read in case of audiobooks, so I fear my listening of books will take over my actual reading of books. But I also enjoy just letting the world go by when I am totally immersed in my paper book along with a drink on the side.
This month I will be happy if I can get through my 4 paper books that I have plans for. Two of them are 500 page mammoths, so it’s a challenge. But all my books are interesting, so I am actually looking forward to digging into them all. Of course, one of them is a William Shakespeare play of Henry VI, and that will probably be done at the end of the month.
And then, it will be July! I cannot believe July is so very close…it’s pretty shocking to me.
It’s a lovely thing to see my time on this planet measured, in one way, by the books that I get to read. One of my deep joys, and needs, is reading. So measuring my life in books is something I truly enjoy. In fact, my vacations for me are flavored with books that I read on those trips…it’s a sort of a filter that those special times spent traveling with my family have- a filter of a particular author’s words that filled my mind on those trips, and stories of the characters that I was invested in…
I am not sure what my audiobook journey in June would look like because I like to let that be more spontaneous. But for my paper books here is my June reading list:
- Henry VI- William Shakespeare (play)
- Abundance- A Novel of Marie Antoinette- Sena Jeter Naslund (historical fiction)
- The Bookseller of Florence- Ross King (non-fiction set in history)
- Hyperefficient- Optimize Your Brain to Transform the Way you Work- Mithu Storoni- Self-Help
I think that’s a great mix of books to read in a month, and I am looking forward to them all. My current read is Abundance, and I can’t put it down when I pick it up. And the short chapters help move it fast.
That’s my reading news for now.
