Stories, ideas and musings to make sense of this thing called life..

The Weekend of Spring Cleaning…sort of

Easter long weekend, in the bag. It was so lovely to have the unusual Friday off- felt like a treat to have the week cut off right at the end. Like the weekend came early, instead of stretching longer with the usual Monday long weekend days.

Anyways. Did I use it well? I think so…Here are five highlights-

We Voted!

These signs are making it impossible to forget to vote

I know, exciting right? This is going to be one big deal of an election, and I wanted to make sure that I got my vote in before any other scheduling conflicts, or the busyness on the day of election thwarted my plans. So my husband and I were there first thing on the first day of advance polls, and waited and waited in a very slow moving lineup. And finally, success! Of course, the whole world had the same plan of voting that very morning, and hence the long lineups and hence the delay. But I loved that all of us who were grumbling and complaining standing in that lineup had showed up on their long weekend (Friday) first thing to do their civic duty…I truly felt like a badass 🙂 Later I heard in the news that the first day of advance polls had historically never had so many people show up, and there were 2 hour wait times in places around the country. So my 40 minutes does not seem so bad. Now I wonder, how did I think I was the only one (or one of a few) who’d have the brilliant plan of putting their votes in at the very first opportunity, and on a long weekend too!

Watched Wicked

Watched Wicked for our Saturday and Sunday night entertainment 🙂

After all the hullabaloo over this movie at the Oscars and Golden Globes, I was curious to watch Wicked. Of course, it was an easy movie to watch. But long. We started watching it on Saturday night, but only finished it on Sunday night (I am too sleepy after 9 pm to care!). It was delightful in a light fluffy way, but not earth shattering or anything for me. I had a hard time understanding the words of the songs in this musical- was it our speakers (I don’t think so, coz we never have any problems), or was it just the way the songs were recorded? Oh well, I don’t know if the songs were taking the movie any further, but it was nice entertainment over all. Glad we caught up with the highlight movie of last year, and had a good family time together.

It was WARM!

A yard near us…we wait for the blue takeover every spring 🙂

The Friday morning when I went for a walk first thing in the morning, I was amazed that I did not need a jacked! I was feeling weird leaving the house without one, but also ecstatic 🙂 Of course, it cooled down somewhat by the end of the weekend, but hey, the temperatures are slowly moving in the right direction finally…I will take it! And to celebrate this new found warmth I took several walks over the weekend, and admired all the flowers popping out everywhere 🙂

A lazy coffee date

A lazy coffee date with some decaf

On Sunday, it was SO SUNNY, and it looked warm. But looks were deceptive, because the wind that was blowing was coooollllddd…so after our errands were done, my husband and I enjoyed some afternoon decaf coffee in one of the not-closed-for-Easter coffee shops in the Junction. The place was warm because of the very sharp sun, there was soft jazz music playing, not many people around, and we had nowhere to be…it really made us feel slow and relaxed, this cup of coffee…we didn’t even talk much, and it was just beautiful half hour of our day 🙂

Spring Cleaning

Random collection of stuff gotten rid of

Yes, I have started. I didn’t believe it at first, but spring cleaning is a thing! I mean, I truly get this urge to start getting rid of things not being used, bring in fresh things (plants), and just generally clean up the house! I guess, after being hold in inside all the long winter, it makes us humans feel like freshening up our space. I don’t know what it is about, but I sure get excited this one time every year, and enjoy the feeling of some newness to the house. Lots of collected magazines and mail and random stuff got disposed off. Books got piled up properly instead of just falling from their supposed pile, and deep corners got vacuumed…I feel good already, but I also know I can do a lot more. So more to come in the next few weekends 🙂
