Stories, ideas and musings to make sense of this thing called life..

Thankful Thursday with Flowers!

This week I am thankful for…

My son’s braces are off!

A two year epic journey of keeping on top of dental stuff- elastics at night, more than regular cleaning, wires breaking or poking and us showing up too often at the orthodontic office to get things fixed…well, all of that is finally over! And things look great…so thankful we are done and it all went ok. My son was a total champ throught all of this, even when every tightening appointment meant he couldn’t eat solid food for a day or two. And of course, doing his long cleaning ritual every night. Without me having to nag him or anything….Yes, we are thankful

Ran in my new Five Finger shoes, and they worked great

I had to get new shoes for working out. Because my old ones have holes in their soles which at some point makes them useless. But I wanted similar toed shoes without heels for better posture and mobility. I do not like heels that workout shoes seem to have so much of these days. I like to feel the earth with my whole foot as much as possible- at home and while working out. I was nervous about these shoes because I ordered them online from a final sale for a song (because they were the last of the old season design), and that means sizing is always tricky. But, thankfully they fit. I started with wearing them around the house for an hour or so and would find my toes got tired from all the separation- I guess they were so far from each other for the first time in their 40+ years of their existence! And only now, a month later, did I dare to run in them. I was a bit nervous coz these shoes are definitely work to be in…And they were a success! So the gamble with buying shoes on a final sale online paid off! Now, the next step is to dare to wear them for my longer resistance training over an hour long workout…I will get there!

FLOWERS!!

The big news in Canada these days are the very first flowers everywhere…finally its looking like spring is here, and there is hope for warm days to come…what a relief! There was a time earlier this month that that possibility seemed bleak when sudden blizzard made its way into the city and snow coverage was everywhere. But thankfully, and hopefully we are done with the white stuff for a while, and there are some nice warm days to enjoy after the long dark winter, not to mention all the berry and peach season to come. Thank you flowers for coming and giving us hope

That we have a backyard

Its so easy to forget the outside spaces of my house during a long winter because I only hang out where the heating is…inside! And then spring comes along, and we realize, hey, we can hang out outside in our backyard…what joy! And during the beginning of the season, cleaning outside is a ritual full of joy and purpose, enjoying that first warm day in the sun being outside in my own space. I cannot wait to while away hours on the deck in my backyard. We barely eat inside once its warm enough. Our deck is our dining room, and our living room. I cannot wait for those days to come back, and I am so thankful for this space to hang out in.

For my Complete Works of Shakespeare

This book, I pick it up every month to read one play out of it. And thank god, I own it. I am so happy I don’t have to order a play each month from the library. I am sure a few months would have been missed if I had to do that- and go pick it up and return it- just the friction of the job. But instead I just pluck this book out of my bookshelf and read a few pages each month. So easy. And the book and I connect just that little bit more each time- it becomes mine from me handling it a little more, and from reading it a little bit more from it. The connection deepens. I am thankful I have this tome to enjoy on my bookshelf.

And that’s it for me. What are you thankful for this week?
