Thankful Thursday with Extreme Cold

Thankful Thursday is here again to remind me to count my blessings…

It’s COLD!

It sure is cold in my neck of the woods this week!!
Toronto is have extreme weather!!

Which means I am loving my woolies, and appreciating being home more than ever! The temperatures are in low minus teens which is not usual for my city…Bundling up is the only option, because not going out is not.

One pinch that I am feeling is the restriction in walking for a longer time. But having a cozy home and all the warm things that I can wear make these cold days feel like an adventure of sorts 🙂

I never have much opportunity to wear my super thick sweater more than once every winter. I feel like I will be using it well this year…

My Sourdough Starter is alive and kicking!

My lovely sourdough getting ready for some weekend baking!

I am getting ready to bake my first sourdough bread over the weekend in years…and that prospect makes me very excited!

It has been fun watching my little jar of bacteria do their work creating air bubbles in the dough mixture. Now to use them to make some good old-fashioned bread. And anticipating that first bite in that fresh warm loaf…YUM!!

For Inspiration Coming Back

Blind count our drawing in my studio
Warming up with some drawing in the studio

If you read my post yesterday, I was talking about going through a creative slump last 2 weeks in my art practice. But inspiration is slowly walking in to my life. And that means things are happening in my studio finally. And because I have been through this cycle many times, I was not panicking, but waiting patiently for my motivation to be stirred. Now I am excited for things to come! And I am thankful to have inspiration back!

Baking with my son

We called them our honeycomb cookies :-)
Our sourdough earl grey lavender cookies that turned into a honeycomb!

So last weekend, I used some of the discard of my sourdough starter, and asked my son to help me bake some cookies…let’s just say this is not a usual thing anymore. Because he’s a teenager, and BUSY! We used to bake A LOT in our previous life as homeschoolers. And have a lot of fun 🙂 So it was great to have him working alongside me to make some Sourdough Earl Grey Lavendar cookies using this recipe. The large amount of butter in the cookies meant they flowed into each other and don’t look that great. But the Earl Grey Lavender flavored butter cooked did taste amazing! Thankful for the baking company, and thankful for some sourdough discard to work with…

Yoga

Reading up on yoga
The books that I am kinda reading these days to understand yoga better

This year, I have decided I want to go deeper with my yoga practice. With that thought in mind, I have attended a couple of yoga classes in person at my local studio, and have been reading more on yoga…All of this in addition to my daily yoga at home on Alo Moves. I am absolutely loving this immersion. And feeling my body and mind waking up to this new immersion…I am not sure where this journey will lead me later in life. But the journey deeper into yoga is where I am headed, without worrying about outcomes or results. I am thankful to have these resources to enjoy…

When Friends drop off Books

Wanderers: A history of women walking the book by Kerri Andrews
My friend lent me this lovely book

My friend dropped off this book for me because I happened to tell her that I found it interesting…How lucky am I to have such wonderful friends, and great books to read that I am able to enjoy…oh this wonderful life. I am SO THANKFUL for it and all the lovely people around me.

What are you thankful for this week?
